I. Basaksehir – KVC Westerlo

Today the first of two Turkish friendly games was on the program. Opponent was Basaksehir, with Lucas Biglia in the starting line-up and currently fifth in the Turkish first division.

Early in the game Westerlo could open the score: a quick counter via Nacer Chadli and Kyan Vaesen reached Dorgeles Nene: 0 – 1 (9′).

It was waiting for the next chance until just past the half-hour mark.  Okaka’s – ex-Anderlecht – header hit the post and for Westerlo it was again Nene who created danger, but his shot hit the goalkeeper’s fists.

Just before halftime, both home goals fell. Nick Gillekens at first went well flat on a shot by Chouiar, but against the resulting tangle ball he was defenseless: 1 – 1 (40′). The home team managed to turn the situation around completely before halftime: Ball loss was immediately punished: 2 – 1.

In the second half Westerlo changed all field players and after a hour Koen Van Langendonck came on.

Westerlo looked for the tying goal. After a center from Maxim De Cuyper, Igor headed just over and Maxim himself signed for the final touch, but his header was tapped over by the Turkish goalie.

Despite the result, this was by all means an encouraging performance by our boys.
