Recap – Internationals
The last international break of 2024 still had plenty of excitement in store for some of our young international Kemphanen. With Rommens, Frigan, and Vuskovic, three KVCW players were still fighting for a ticket to the 2025 European Under-21 Championship. Unfortunately, it was a battle they couldn’t finish on a high note.
Tuur Rommens and the Belgian U21 team struggled against their Czech counterparts. The unfortunate 0-2 home defeat could not be corrected in the return leg in Hradec Králové, where the Young Devils ended in a 1-1 draw.
A similar scenario unfolded for the Croatian U21 team with Luka Vuskovic and Matija Frigan. They also had to overcome a deficit in their return match for a European qualification ticket, after a 1-0 loss in Georgia. With a last-minute goal, the Croatians forced a penalty shootout. In the shootout, Frigan and Vuskovic showed their composure from the penalty spot, scoring, but in the end, it was the Georgians who triumphed with a 6-7 victory.
On the international U21 stage, Emir Ortakaya gained additional playing time in central defense with the Turkish U21 team. Meanwhile, Dogucan Haspolat can reflect on a valuable week with the Turkish senior squad, who are preparing for the playoff matches in the Nations League to secure promotion to the A-group. Finally, Jordan Bos not only earned two more caps but also added two more points to his total after two draws against Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
