Internationals

A new international break has been checked off, so it’s time for a round-up. With plenty of playing minutes, points, and even goals in their luggage, seven of our Kemphanen have returned from their international duties.

The biggest smile when walking back into the basecamp undoubtedly belonged to Tuur Rommens. The left-back secured a spot in the playoff rounds for the U21 European Championship with the Belgian U21s. Rommens triumphed over his teammate Mebude in a direct duel in Scotland, where Belgium secured a crucial three points thanks to two goals from a familiar face, Lucas Stassin.

In the Croatian U21s, Luka Vuskovic found the back of the net in their 3-2 win over Greece. Earlier, the towering defender helped secure three points at home in a match against Andorra—where Matija Frigan was also in the squad.

Also making it onto the scoresheet during the international break was Josimar Alcocer. The Costa Rican helped his country secure a point in a 1-1 draw against Suriname. However, our quick-footed winger had to sit out against Guatemala due to a suspension following a red card.

Lastly, Jordan Bos and Emin Bayram also swapped their Westel kit for their national colors. Bos smoothly collected three points against China and held the group leader Japan to a draw at home.

Bayram, with the Turkish U21s, couldn’t pull off an upset against group revelation Norway but did convincingly take three points in a 3-0 win over Latvia.
