All together for a sustainable future
In recent years, we have already taken major steps towards a more sustainable stadium at ’t Kuipje. Supporters can be seen using reusable cups and our players and staff drive with the electric power of BYD vehicles. These are, of course, charged via our on-site charging stations. In addition, we are investing in a smart energy strategy on our premises.
Reusable cups
For the past three seasons, we have been using reusable cups during matches. Since August 2025, a deposit system has also been introduced. This allows our supporters to enjoy a refreshing drink during the match in a sustainable way. Finished the drink finished? Simply return the cup in one of the refund tubes and receive your deposit back.
Electric power of BYD
The club made a deliberate strategic decision to switch its entire vehicle fleet – around 60 vehicles – to electric driving, thereby completely eliminating fossil fuel emissions.
Smart power supply
To optimally support this electrification, we realised an ambitious and forward-looking energy transition project together with TerPower. A total of 25 AC charging stations and a 240 kW fast charger were installed on the club premises. In addition, a strong focus was placed on local and renewable energy production. TerPower expanded the existing PV installation from 108 kWp to 360 kWp and complemented it with a battery system of 300 kW/600 kWh.
As a result, we can generate, store and flexibly deploy a large share of our energy locally. In total, the club is expected to consume approximately 300 MWh of green electricity annually.
All energy flows – consumption, production, storage and charging infrastructure – are continuously monitored and intelligently controlled through an advanced Energy Management System (EMS). Thanks to AI-driven control, energy is consumed, stored or fed back into the grid at the right time. This results in lower energy costs, higher self-consumption of solar energy and optimal use of flexibility, while the system continuously improves itself.
These initiatives form the perfect foundation to continue building towards a more sustainable stadium.
