FCV Dender EH – KVC Westerlo

This fixture was on the schedule for the very first time on 25 November 2007. It ended in a painful 4-1 defeat. Since then, we have faced each other four more times at the Dender Football Complex stadium, with the following final scores: 2-0, 2-2, 1-0 and again 1-0.

Last season

This match was on the programme twice, and both times the score was 1-0. In the Europe Play-Offs, Dender’s goal was scored by… Bryan Reynolds, an own goal in other words. Man of the match was Andreas Jungdal, who received a score of 9/10. Dender had ten shots on goal and our Kemphanen managed three. It was a difficult away game, in which Dender was the deserved winner.

On a freezing cold Sunday in December, we visited them again and the score was also 1-0. This was a completely different game in which we had the advantage in terms of shots (5-15). Dender had exactly one ‘shot’ between the posts, which Koen Van Langendock had no chance of saving.

Current season

Last week, they secured their first three points of the season in Dender after a victory in and against Antwerp. David Toshevski, who also found the net against us a few weeks ago, and Ragnar Oratmangoen – in the 88th minute – scored the goals.

They are currently bottom of the table, but a win against us would allow them to catch up with the other teams and avoid the Play Downs.

Mutual transfers

We noted two transfers from Westerlo to Dender: striker Bart Van den Eede made the switch in 2008 and third goalkeeper Renaud Dotremont did the same in 2013.

Steven De Petter (2009), Evariste Ngolok (2011) and Philippe Janssens (2012) transferred in the other direction.

Referee

Jan Boterberg has been appointed to referee this match. He has already refereed nine matches in the Jupiler Pro League this season, including Westerlo vs Antwerp (2-0). It will be his eleventh match for our Kemphanen, in which we previously won at the Kuipje against Anderlecht (2-0), drew at the same stadium against OHL (1-1) and Charleroi (0-0) and lost against Genk (1-2), OHL (0-3), Club Brugge (0-1), Standard (2-0) and Charleroi (2-0). We also drew 1-1 with him at Beerschot in 2018.
