Well deserved victory

Today we went to Mouscron to play the sixth round of the 1B Pro League.

Line-up KVC Westerlo: David Jensen, Edisson Jordanov, Rubin Seigers, Pietro Perdichizzi, Lukas Van Eenoo, Thomas Van den Keybus, Jan Bernat, Maxim De Cuyper, Tuur Dierckx, Lyle Foster, Kyan Vaesen

First Half

The pace was immediately right for our Kemphans. The pressure was excellent when the opponent was in possession of the ball and Mouscron was nowhere to be seen. In minute 14 the score was opened by Edisson Jordanov after a good action by Jan Bernat, allowing him to pass his man, 0-1.

A dozen more chances were created, but the efficiency was lacking. Just before half time, Lyle Foster had an excellent chance to increase the lead to 0-2. He passed everyone, including the goalkeeper, but failed to work the ball into the empty goal. The score remained 0-1 in favour of Westerlo and that is how we went into the dressing room.

Second Half

In the second half, there was clearly less energy in the players than in the first half. The fighting spirit that we saw in the beginning of the game was clearly reduced and Mouscron could fight back in the game. In the 65th minute, we had a somewhat unfortunate counter-goal. The ball hit Pietro Perdichizzi’s leg and ended up in the goal, 1-1.

We seemed to be heading for a draw, until in minute 91 Edisson Jordanov sent in a good cross towards the far post. Here stood Maxim De Cuyper, who extended the ball to Fernand Gouré. Fernand headed the ball beautifully into the goal, scoring his first goal for our club.

Two minutes later, the final signal sounds, we win deservedly so we can take the three points home. The gap to second place is increased to four points.
