Preview RSC Charleroi

Tomorrow afternoon, KVC Westerlo will travel to the Stade du Pays de Charleroi in the 1/16 finals of the Croky Cup. If our team manages to get through, KAA Gent is one of the contenders in the next hurdle. But first the carolos will have to go for the axe.

Easy win

It will be the second time that our team is in action in this season’s cup adventure. Earlier, Westerlo had already played host to RC Hades. The club from Hasselt could offer little resistance, making it an all in all easy 5-1 victory for our club. At that time still under the watchful eye of our loyal supporters. Atabey Çiçek could take home the match ball after scoring a hat-trick.

KVC Westerlo has a history in the cup competition. In the 2000/2001 season, our team won the cup after a goal from club hero Jefke Delen. The 2010/2011 season will be a little more fresh in our memories. After first eliminating Anderlecht at home, victories followed against Lierse SK and Cercle Brugge at home. On 21 May 2011, the crowd flocked to the Heysel to take on Standard in the final. The people from Liège were too strong for our team, so we had to settle for second place.

There are chances

Charleroi have taken off like a rocket this season in the Jupiler Pro League. The carolers were in contention for the lead for a long time. Recently, coach Belhocine’s team barely made it 4 out of 15, so there are opportunities for our team.

The match will not be televised live.
