Preview KMSK Deinze – KVC Westerlo

We had an important victory last week. Especially when you know that tomorrow we have to visit our black beast. Deinze managed to steal eight points from us this season. No other club did better. So it’s time for our Kemphanen to hopefully take the three points back to Het Kuipje.

Team KMSK Deinze
The Tigers get most of their points against 2 clubs this season. Red lantern Virton could only pick up 1 point against them, but also our Kemphans, the proud league leader, only managed 1 point against them. Also in terms of goals scored, we see a strange twist. They scored seven goals against us, only against Virton again they do better (8 goals). Apparently coach Wim De Decker – as the only one in our series – has found the right formula to crack the defensive code of our team. With six games left to play, they are currently six points behind on a possible promotion place. For them, too, it will again be important to grab points. A win will keep them in the running for that coveted place, losing points could mean the season is over. Although there are still (home) matches against direct competitors RWDM and Waasland Beveren on the programme. You never know in this 1B series.

Apparently the scouts know the way to the Burgemeester Van De Wielestadion as well, as 3 players have already signed a contract with a 1A club for next season. Goalkeeper Vandenberghe and winger Challouk are heading for Kortrijk and central defender Nico Boone will try his luck in Brussels, where he will be under contract at Union. Top marksman Lennert Mertens disappeared from the starting line-up last week against Virton. It was the second time this season that the reserve captain had to be content with a
place on the bench. The two winter acquisitions, right back Robbe Quirynen and central midfielder Liam Fraser – a Canada international – have also won their place in the starting line-up.

Line-up against Virton (0-2):
Vandenberghe, Quirynen, Boone, Prychynenko, Vansteenkiste, Hendrickx, Fraser( 86′ Bizimana), Staelens (56′ Abrahams), Challouk (56′ Lecomte), Dansoko (86′ Mertens), De Belder

Team KVC Westerlo

Last week against Beveren, Lukas Van Eenoo missed his first minutes of this season. The player with number 7 went up in the 87th minute and so our captain could take an early rest. It had been almost a year since he missed minutes for our club. On 7 March 2021 – at Seraing – he was forced to leave the field with a shoulder injury. That leaves goalkeeper David Jensen with all the playing minutes. Pietro Perdichizzi will be sidelined for the next 3 games. After his wild charge on Daniel Maderner last week, referee Dierick gave him a direct red card. Pietro told us that he pulled the emergency brake because he thought there were only a few minutes left to play. Normally, he keeps an eye on the scoreboard, but due to a technical defect of the brand new board, the minutes were at zero and he decided to play safe. If we look into the past, we see that one of our players has scored three times against Deinze. His name: Igor Vetokele. If our Belgian Angolan striker manages to score one more time against the Tigers, he will be at the same level as Lennert Mertens, and he will also take the title of top scorer in the mutual matches. Kyan Vaesen and Jan Bernat remain the players most involved in a goal this season. Both were involved in ten times that the ball disappeared in the goal. Kyan scored 4x and gave 6 assists, Jan was good for 7 goals and 3 assists. In second place are Lukas Van Eenoo and Erdon Daci with nine times involvement. Lukas is not far off his record from last year (12 times decisive) and Erdon is the only one who did not deliver an assist yet but did kick the ball into the goal 9 times.

Referee
The 30-year old Quentin Pirard, affiliated with Patro Lensois, was appointed as match referee. We met him three times already this season, 2x at Het Kuipje – RWDM (0-0) and Virton (1-1) and at Mouscron (1-2). Both for Deinze and for us it will be the tenth game in total that he will whistle. The total balance for both teams looks the same: 3x wins, 3x draws and 3 losses.
