After only three minutes the ball landed in the Virton goal, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Foster was able to stroll through the defence and after a one-two with Vetokele kicked the ball into the goal. The two sides completely dominated the game in the opening quarter. But it is Virton that takes the lead with a bit of luck. Sidibe was able to turn in after a cross from a free kick and hit his right foot. The ball deflected and ended up in the goal.
A few minutes later, there was a good chance for Westerlo. Kyan Vaesen headed a Mabea cross to Foster. Foster strikes in one go but sees his shot being blocked by a defender. A little after the half hour mark, Foster had another excellent chance after a corner kick. The ball crossed and Lyle had a free header, but again the ball was blocked.
Just before half time, we see another good chance through Kyan Vaesen, Kyan kicks on the outside foot but Timothy Martin keeps the nets clean with a fine save. Then it was time to rest. The Kemphans went into the dressing rooms 1-0 down. The statistics show that we were the better team in the first half, but despite 70% possession and 6 chances we still had to make up ground.
Early in the first half we had a good chance through Lukas Van Eenoo. Vaesen first tapped the ball well in the air, after which Van Eenoo kicked at goal. However, the ball is kept out of the goal by Timothy Martin.
We see our Kemphans putting a lot of pressure on the Virton defence, but they are unable to create a good goal. In the 62nd minute coach Jonas De Roeck decided to make the first substitutions. Igor Vetokele and Guy-Serge Yameogo left the field, replaced by Mathias Fixelles and Noël Soumah.
Soumah has work to do right away. Hervé Kage almost managed to escape and strike at goal, but Soumah turned the chance into a corner kick with a good tackle.
In the 75th minute, the equaliser was almost on the scoreboard. Jordanov delivered a wonderful cross to Kyan Vaesen, who headed the ball hard onto the post. A little later the ball hit the post again, this time via Lyle Foster who struck from the right.
The game was called to a close with 1-0 score. We were unlucky today, despite being the better team.
