Match report RE Mouscron – KVC Westerlo
KVC Westerlo is finally champion. The players and supporters found out last Sunday when RWDM lost on the field of Deinze. Today our Kemphans play at Le Canonnier in Mouscron. Jonas De Roeck has made no less than 6 substitutions. The brand new champion wants to recover anyway after the sour defeat in Lommel last week.
Line-up KVC Westerlo

Line-up RE Mouscron

In the opening quarter of the game, both teams were in the mood for a scouting session. Yet after 2 minutes Westerlo got their first corner. De Cuyper was able to pass the ball in front of goal, but Mohamed had to intervene after Mouscron goalkeeper Mandanda had missed. Westerlo tried to score the opening goal, but there were no really big chances.
After 14 minutes, Angiulli pushed De Cuyper to the ground in the penalty area. The referee pointed decisively to the penalty spot. Kyan Vaesen was behind the ball and he kicked the 0-1 on the board.
Our Kemphans are always hungry for more. We noticed that last season. This also came to the fore during this match. Less than a minute after Vaesen’s opening goal, Westerlo scored the 0-2. Thomas Van den Keybus sent the ball to Vaesen with a clever pass. The former youth player of Westerlo crossed the ball blindly, allowing Maxim De Cuyper to score at the far post.
The home team got a first chance after 26 minutes. Bocat was able to score on goal after a fine dribble, but Koen Van Langendonck turned the ball into a corner. The Hainauts were getting better and better in the game and also had more confidence on the ball. After a mistake in the Westel defense, Mouscron could score the 1-2, but substitute Simba slid the ball just wide of the right post.
A few minutes later, Mouscron came in the penalty area again and this time it was rewarded. Koen Van Langendonck was able to parry the ball from goal after a shot by Olivier Myny, but it was of no avail. Teddy Chevalier was able to put the 1-2 on the scoreboard after all.
Unlike last week in Lommel, Westerlo took the lead this time.
The start of the second half was more intense than the first. Mouscron continued with the same momentum as before the break. Chevalier immediately had a chance to score his second goal of the evening. Koen Van Langendonck was almost caught off guard, but luckily hit the ground just in time. Westerlo were also unable to finish off the first chance of the second half. Mandanda was able to work Kyan Vaesen’s surprising shot into a corner.
After 55 minutes our Kemphans were in the mood for a goal again. De Cuyper tried to reach Daci with a tailored cross, but Mandanda opted for a corner for Westerlo. After a turbulent phase the ball ended up in the hands of Neustadter. He was able to reach Seigers, who headed the ball to Vaesen. Just like in the first half he could reach Maxim De Cuyper. He scored his second goal of the evening.
It is hard to believe, but it is exactly the same scenario as in the first half. One minute after the third goal, Westerlo could pop the 1-4 on the scoreboard after miscommunication between Angiulli and Mandanda. Erdon Daci thanked the Mouscron defence and scored his 10th goal of the season.
After 60 minutes, Jonas De Roeck made his first substitutions. Goal scorers Vaesen and De Cuyper made way for Persyn and Bernat.
In minute 66, Frederic Duplus startled the entire stadium. He had a scorching shot from outside the penalty area. Van Langendonck was able to touch the ball with his fingertips, but the shot flew rock-hard into the top left corner. A brilliant goal by the 32-year-old Frenchman.
Tibo Persyn was also in the mood for a goal. After a cross from Daci – who deflected off a Mouscron defender – the substitute was able to score his first goal in Westel. The West-Fleming put the 2-5 on the scoreboard.
Jonas De Roeck changed three more players. Paulet, Goure and Soumah replaced Fixelles, Daci and Van den Keybus. Les Hurlus tried to test Van Langendonck, but in vain.
When one substitute scores a goal, the other can do the same. Simon Paulet must have thought so. After a corner by Bernat, Paulet shot through a bunch of legs to put the final score on the board. Parfait Mandanda had to turn around for a sixth time. The French goalkeeper had anything but a perfect evening.
After 92 minutes referee Kevin Debeuckelaere whistled the game to a close. The Kemphans win convincingly 2-6. Next week Westerlo will play their last match of the season in ’t Kuipje against RWDM.
