First Half

Early in the game we almost saw Zulte take the lead. Tagir entered the duel but with some luck the ball got to striker Vossen who was able to strike out on goal. Bolat picked up with a very good save that cleared the danger. The Kemphans immediately took advantage of the shift in momentum. Gümüskaya delivered an excellent cross towards the first post to compatriot Akbunar. The small flank player managed to head it through perfectly toward the second post where Chadli headed the ball in nicely.

Less than two minutes later, the Red Devil almost scored again. After a good move that allowed him to pass Derijck, he managed to take a shot towards the shortest corner but this time Bossut was able to intervene. During this phase, Zulte-Waregem player Tambedou sustained an injury which forced him to leave the field early.

Essevee played with high pressure towards the Westel goal which caused them to collect as many as 10 corner kicks. Just before halftime we saw excellent interplay on the left flank between De Cuyper and Chadli. Through beautiful combinations, the ball was played up to Gümüskaya who then kicked wide on the left.

We went into the dressing rooms with a 1-0 lead. Bolat played an excellent first half, preventing the West Flemish from scoring.

Second half

Immediately after halftime we saw the lead doubled. Reynolds went forward and played the ball to Madsen, then Foster received the ball from the young Dane and beat goalkeeper Sammy Bossut. An excellent start to the second half.

Then the South African goal scorer managed to break through well on the left flank. However, he was wrongly stopped by Derijck who was not fast enough to follow him, causing the attack to be aborted.

Substitute Tuur Dierckx managed to play himself free just two minutes after his substitution and poked the ball up to Kyan Vaesen. Kyan just didn’t have enough space to get a shot off. Then Essevee countered and almost scored the tying goal. Vossen was able to strike from distance but saw his shot end up on the underside of the crossbar. The ball just did not cross the line leaving it 2-0.

Westerlo then managed to put in another good counter. Foster sent Dierckx through the center who brought the ball to the quick-witted Nene. Nene sprinted towards goal but his shot went wide.

The game ends in 2-0, the three points stay at home.
