The match gets underway with a high tempo. Beveren fought hard and seemed to want to go all the way. However, this is also the case for our Kemphans, so it promises to be an exciting game of football. Our first real chance was to kick the ball into the goal, but the referee had spotted a foul in the sixteen-metre area which meant the goal did not count. For the rest, in the first 30 minutes, there are few chances to be seen from both sides.
Westerlo get a good chance through Maxim De Cuyper, Mabea gives a sharp cross to the first post and De Cuyper tries to get in front through a backward header. The ball went wide, however, so there was no danger. In minute 31 the same Mabea advanced. He scored with a long-distance shot on his left but the ball went wide.
The referee has a lot of work this match. First Jan Bernat was penalised with yellow for protesting. The protest was justified though, because Westerlo deserved a corner kick. A few minutes later, coach Jonas De Roeck was also given a yellow card.
Just before half time Waasland-Beveren had a great chance to take the lead. The ball was passed to the goal but was not hit by the head properly, ending up at the feet of Pietro Perdichizzi. The first half did not result in any goals, so the players went into the dressing rooms with a score of 0-0.
After the start of the second half, it is clear that both teams absolutely want to go for the opening goal. Westerlo had a good chance through Maxim De Cuyper who hit the target. Nordin Jackers was alert and managed to stop the shot, Maxim got the ball in the rebound, but it went wide. Westerlo is clearly looking for a goal.
In minute 73, it’s prize, Erdon Daci receives the ball from Edisson Jordanov at the post after a beautiful heel by Maxim De Cuyper. Daci doesn’t hesitate for a second and leaves the nets shaking, 1-0. Less than two minutes later, the same Erdon Daci had the perfect chance to make it 2-0. He received the ball at the far post and only had to tap it in. Daci kicked too hard and the ball went over the goal.
The game shows that Westerlo clearly want to score another goal. Lyle Foster rushes at goal and kicks the ball into the far corner. Goalie Nordin Jackers got in the way though, so the score remained 1-0 for the time being. But it is Beveren that scores the second goal. With some luck the ball falls to Edmundsson who works it into the goal, 1-1. With this score the referee also ends the match.
