Match report KVC Westerlo – Standard de Liège

Today we welcomed the Rouches in t’ Kuipje. Jonas De Roeck made some changes to his starting eleven. Nene Dorgeles and Nicolas Madsen got a place in the starting line-up after their good substitutions the day before. Jan Bernat also got his first starting spot of the season.

First half

The first chance of the match came through Dorgeles Nene. Nene got the ball on the edge of the box and fired a shot towards Bodart. Seconds later, Jan Bernat had the perfect opportunity to give the Kemphans the lead. An excellent cross fell perfectly to him in the open space. Jan decided to hit the volley in one go but the shot went far wide.

In the 19th minute, Standard had their first good chance. Donnum was suddenly able to head towards goal. Perdichizzi and Seigers made sure the shot was blocked.

The game went pretty much evenly, Westerlo just got a bit more on the ball but did not manage to score any more good chances. In the first half, the game often went down the right flank, where Dierckx and Jordanov took care of the crosses towards the penalty area.

In minute 37 the ball fell to Igor Vetokele, who headed in a cross from Tuur Dierckx to score his third goal of the season, 1-0. Ten minutes later the Kemphans went into the dressing room with a well-deserved lead.

Second half

Westerlo clearly seemed eager to come out of the dressing room. Immediately after the break, Dorgeles Nene doubled the lead to 2-0. In minute 54 we could almost score 3-0. Igor Vetokele headed towards Arnaud Bodart and tried to place his shot in the far corner, but the ball went just wide.

In minute 63, the connecting goal was scored. Abdoul Tapsoba was just a bit too quick for Pietro Perdichizzi and got the ball over Bolat with some luck. He then had only to kick the ball into the open goal, 2-1.

Ten minutes later there was an excellent reaction from our Kemphans. Tuur Dierckx was played the ball from the left flank and had space to shoot at goal. Bodart was able to hit the ball with his fingertips but it still ended up in the nets, 3-1 thanks to an own goal by the goalkeeper.

In minute 84, Tuur Dierckx had to be replaced because of an injury. Roman Neustaedter took his place.

Ten minutes later our Kemphans responded excellently. Tuur Dierckx was played the ball from the left flank and had space to shoot at goal. Bodart was able to hit the ball with his fingertips but it still ended up in the nets, 3-1 thanks to an own goal by the goalkeeper.

Westerlo played very quietly in the following minutes, but were startled when the Rouches managed to score the 3-2 via Dussenne. The Kemphans were not taken by surprise and substitute Foster made it 4-2. The three points stay at home!
