First half
Our team came behind early in the game. Paintsil was stabbed deep and brought the ball to Ouattara. The latter headed the ball in excellent at the first post, 0-1. Foster then tried to react with a shot towards the far corner, but Vandevoordt was well in between.

Genk doubled their lead after 24 minutes. Tagir tried to head a high ball back to Bolat, but couldn’t get enough power behind it. Paintsil took advantage of this and played the ball past our goalkeeper, 0-2. Our players went into the dressing rooms with a 0-2 deficit. Genk were efficient in the first half and eagerly finished their chances.

Second half
A few minutes after the kick-off, the ball was put on the spot in favor of our team. Cuesta fouled Van den Keybus, after which De Cuyper kicked in the tying goal via a shot to the left corner. Three minutes later our Ruffs were completely back in the game. Van den Keybus got a falling ball in his feet, after which he was able to put the equalizer on the scoreboard with a beautiful shot towards the top corner.

Westerlo kept pushing forward and showed the fighting spirit to keep the three points at home. However, it was Genk who again managed to find the net. Munoz was able to surprise Bolat with a bicycle kick that put us back behind.

At the end of the game, referee Boucaut again pointed to Genk’s spot. Dierckx seemed to go down after a touch from Hrosovsky, but after the intervention of the VAR, the penalty was canceled. The game ended with a 2-3 score, we narrowly lost to the league leader.
