Today the second friendly of the season ’22-’23 was on the programme. We were visited by KAA Gent and played a game of 2 x 60 minutes.

First Half

The first chance of the game is immediately for our Kemphans. Thomas Van den Keybus sent Lyle Foster deep down the left flank. Lyle turned inside and hit the target but his shot was blocked by goalkeeper Davy Roef. A few minutes later the Buffaloes almost had a go. Rubin Seigers made a mistake but immediately put it right again by recovering the ball with an excellent tackle.

After 20 minutes Fernand Gouré almost made it 1-0 but his shot was too soft and defender Joseph Okumu kept the ball off the line.

After a short break in the 30th minute, Gent almost took the lead. Ibrahim Salah dived into space and headed towards goalkeeper Sinan Bolat. He tried to tip the ball over the goalie but saw his shot go just over the bar. Then it was Westerlo that reacted quickly. Rubin Seigers got the ball in the sixteen meter zone and managed to tap it past Davy Roef, 1-0.

Gent started to put more pressure on, but our Kemphans played well out of it. Just before half time the lead was even doubled. Foster first beat the keeper but was lucky enough to see the ball hit the net, 2-0.

Second Half

Line-up KVC Westerlo second half: N. Gillekens, P. Perdichizzi, J. Bernat, K. Vaesen, L. Seydoux, K. Mabea (B. Reynolds), K. Keita, I. Vetokele, R. Neustädter, T. DIerckx (G. Saka), Y. Chikhi (S. Camara)

Line-up KAA Gent second half: C. De Schrevel, R. Van Den Bergh, A. Oladoye, B. Godeau, B. Agbor, V. Odjidja-Ofoe, J. Munezero, M. Fofana, G. Bruno, A. Hjulsager, M. Samoise

After the break of 60 minutes, we see a completely different team starting from scratch. After a few minutes, we see Kyan Vaesen try to score a goal with a volley, but unfortunately the ball goes just over the goal. A few seconds later, however, his name did appear on the scoreboard. Kyan received a good cross from the right flank and headed the ball into the ropes, 3-0.

Then, through Malick Fofana, Gent scored the equaliser. The young left winger turned inside and kicked the ball into the short corner past goalkeeper Gillekens,3-1. Our Kemphans kept creating chances. After a nice combination between Tuur Dierckx and Leo Seydoux, Jan Bernat was able to shoot at goal but the fingertips of goalkeeper De Schrevel just saved.

The Kemphans enjoyed the game and scored a fourth time. Tuur Dierckx brought Kyan Vaesen in front of goal with a good pass and Kyan scored his second goal of the day, 4-1.

The goals keep on falling, this time it is Gent again that shakes the nets. Odjidja-Ofoe brings the ball to the far post where it is worked into the goal, 4-2. The Kemphans reply immediately, however, and Kyan Vaesen crowns an excellent performance with a hat-trick, 5-2.

Just before the end of the game, Igor Vetokele passed his opponent with a nice first touch. Igor gives the ball to Sekou Camara who crosses it to the far post where Jan Bernat made it 6-2.
