The game starts with Thomas Van den Keybus seeing Erdon Daci dive into space. Van den Keybus gives a long ball but it is just a bit too hard and it ends up in the hands of Deinze goalkeeper Tom Vandenberghe. In the 12th minute, Youssef Challouk shot from distance, the ball deflected off our defence and ended up at the feet of Lennart Mertens. Mertens sees that goalie David Jensen is off his line and slides the ball over, 1-0.
The lead for Deinze is short lived though, three minutes after they made it Maxim De Cuyper scored the equaliser on a corner kick by Lukas Van Eenoo, 1-1. The corner kicks seem to be dangerous today, eight minutes after our goal a Deinze ball from a corner kick hits the bar.
The rest of the first half was characterised by tough physical duels, with the referee often having to call a foul. We go into the dressing rooms at 1-1.
The first good chance of the second half was for Westerlo. Jan Bernat saw Jordanov leave on the right and passed the ball to him. Jordanov turns inside and strikes with his left. Vandenberghe stopped the ball, but it fell into the foot of Erdon Daci, who kicked the ball back into the goal. This was the chance to take the lead.
In the 55th minute, midfielder Thomas Van den Keybus was forced to leave the field with an injury. His replacement is Oguz Güctekin. After this, Lyle Foster and Leo Seydoux were brought onto the pitch for Kyan Vaesen and Jan Bernat respectively.
From minute 70 onwards, the Kemphans put on a lot of pressure, creating a few good chances. However, they were not efficient enough. In the 79th minute Kurt Abrahams broke through on goal alone but shot the ball over.
In the 80th minute Deinze scored, Denis Prychynenko shot the ball into the net from distance. 2-1. In minute 88 Lukas Van Eenoo curls a ball from a free kick on the right flank towards goal, but the Deinze goalkeeper is well in between.
The referee whistles the game away after 93 minutes. Deinze wins with 2-1, which also means an end to our unbeaten streak.
