First half

First chances of the match fell along the Bruges side. Mineiro made a mistake by wanting to keep the ball too long right in front of his own sixteen-meter area. Blue-Black managed to conquer the ball, leaving Lang alone in front of goal. Seigers was able to clear the ball, which put an end to the danger.

Then our Kemphans managed to counter. Madsen kept the ball well and played Nene. The young Malian was able to strike but his shot went high over. Just after the quarter hour mark, we saw an open chance for Club Brugge. The ball was initially kicked at Bolat but ended up in the feet of Vanaken, who then kicked it over the box.

On the half-hour mark, an excellent chance came for our Kemphans. Akbunar crossed the ball to Foster, who then headed it in for Chadli. Nacer lashed out at goal but saw the ball go wide of the post.

Bruges created a lot of chances but the finishing was lacking. We got away well several times so the score remained 0-0 for the time being. Westerlo also had a chance just before half time through a combination of Chadli and De Cuyper. Akbunar got the ball to Westerlo but could not hit it well enough.

Second Half

Early in the second half, our Kemphans took the lead. Nene was able to sprint away on the counter towards Mignolet. He was just able to keep the ball out of the goalkeeper’s hands after which Foster put the 0-1 on the scoreboard.

In response to the goal, Brugge stepped up the pressure a lot. Our Kemphans had to try to drag out counters. Brugge almost put the equalizer on the scoreboard through a free Hans Vanaken. Vanaken hesitated too long to kick and saw his shot blocked by Bolat.

Bolat had an excellent game but was penalized in minute 79 with a yellow card for time-wasting.

Brugge kept getting chances but still it was us who decided the match in minute 86. Foster got too much space at the far post and was able to kick the ball past Mignolet a second time, 0-2 and booking.

The three points went with the bus towards ’t Kuipje, we finished the chances we got and could return home satisfied.
