Match report Club Brugge – KVC Westerlo (2-1)

This weekend, two games were scheduled for our Kemphanen. After a training session this morning, where they mainly practiced standing still phases, 16 players took the bus to Knokke-Heist, where national champion Club Brugge was the host. Blauwzwart came to the kick-off with a few stars. Bas Dost, Daniel Pérez, Federico Ricca and captain Hans Vanaken were all there, along with the youngsters from Club NXT, against whom we had such a tough time last season. Westerlo played well in the first half. The best chances however were for the home team. In minute 25 Venezuelan Daniel Pérez found brand new daddy Koen Van Langendonck in his way. Five minutes later Bas Dost hit the post. Yet it was our Kemphanen who took the break with a lead. Central defender Mbamba sent in a poor pass, which Tuur Dierckx took advantage of. He sent Kyan Vaesen into the box, who as always in these situations coolly kicked the ball wide of the Bruges goalkeeper (0-1).

In the second half, Edi(sson) Jordanov was replaced as a precaution. He received a slight kick to his calf, and the coaching staff did not want to take any risks with our first league game in sight next week.

Lorenzo Noviello was his replacement, and so Léo Seydoux moved back a row. Bas Dost was the author of the equaliser just after the break. Koen Van Langendonck slipped up after kicking the ball away, and so the Dutch striker was able to bring the game back into balance (1-1). On the hour Daniel Pérez hit the post for the second time in the match. Five minutes before the final whistle, the best action and ditto chance were created.

Lorenzo Noviello, who came on eagerly, slalommed between the West Flemish defenders. Via Dimitrije Jovanovic the ball ended up in the hands of Kyan Vaesen, who did not hesitate and headed at goal. With a cat-like jump, Senne Lammens kept the score in balance. In the end, the goal fell on the other side. Again, it was poor defending and it was youngster Tommie Van den Keybus who put the final score on the scoreboard (2-1). Tomorrow, another match is scheduled. At noon (12 o’clock) we play against KRC Genk.

This match will also be played behind closed doors.
