Bob Peeters: We are not out of the race yet
Coach, what’s not working this season?
Okay, we knew in advance that this match was going to depend on the details. In the end, we asked for a lot of mentality, intensity and organisation. I think we had things under control, it’s a difficult pitch to play on. We can’t really play football.
We scored at a good time. I think we had another chance with Igor in the first half, where he is completely free but maybe thinks he is offside. Then another ball to Atabey, where the goalkeeper deviates it into his feet and kicks it wide. Then, in the last minute, another chance for Ambroise, where the ball hit the bar.
In the end, they had one real chance, and they took it. And that is a pity because the boys fought from the first minute to the last.
We only got one point today, but there are still six games to go. And six difficult games for both Seraing and us. If our boys can keep bringing this mentality, coupled with a slightly better pitch, they will have more footballing quality. And then efficiency, both against Club NXT and today, those are the moments. When we won here the first time, 0-2. I think we had three chances and exploited two, that’s football.
I can’t say anything about how the boys did everything they could today to get a result. We need to recover now, we’re going to give ourselves two days off to let that English week go by. And then on Sunday we have another difficult opponent.
Lukas Van Eenoo also fell out in the first half, that’s also a heavy obstacle, isn’t it?
Yes, although Igor Vetokele did pretty well too. We also opted for fresh flanks. Mabea, Remmer, Plumain and Tuur Dierckx. Because Seraing gives a lot of balls from the flank. We therefore opted not to put Fabien Antunes on the sheet.
Kader and Lukas are usually fresh people who are never injured. After a quarter of an hour, Lukas fell badly on his shoulder. Tomorrow he has to have his picture taken, so we will see if there is any damage, let’s hope it is not too bad. Then we can look towards Sunday.
After Lukas’ injury, do you have three people warming up? Christoffer, Mabea and Ambroise. Did you have to think long and hard about who you were going to put in?
Yes, at some point… Or we would have brought in Mabea and Christophe Janssens. That’s not really his position either. I thought Christophe did very well with Baris on the flank. And yes, Remmer is not a real 6 either. That’s why we opted for a slightly more attacking 6. Because we know that Igor can also get in front of goal in that second phase. I think that in itself was the right choice. It’s just a pity that we didn’t get rewarded for it.
Igor can handle any position, right?
Yes Igor is someone who has a lot of football intelligence. Who can play on 9, 10, 11, 7 and today on 8. And actually did that perfectly. But I must say, the mentality of the boys was good. It was just a pity about the result. There are still 6 games, we are not out of the race yet.
If we had lost today, it would have been a difficult story. For the same money we could have won. If you look at the chances, apart from the football. They also started playing a lot more long balls in the second half, because football was becoming more and more difficult on this pitch.
It’s a pity we didn’t reward ourselves for those 94 minutes of hard work. It was not the most beautiful, academic football. But today there was a lot at stake and in the end the boys gave it their all. Just a pity we didn’t reward ourselves.
Coach Bob Peeters took stock after the game against Seraing. The match depended on details, and as asked beforehand, the Kemphans played with a lot of mentality, intensity and organisation. In the end, Seraing had one real chance, and they took it. That is a pity, because Westerlo fought from the first to the last minute.
Because of the draw against Seraing, the gap remains at 3 points. With 6 games to go, with both Seraing and Westerlo facing difficult games, everything is still possible.
Lukas Van Eenoo was sidelined early in the first half. After fifteen minutes Van Eenoo fell badly on his shoulder, forcing Peeters to replace him. Gboho was brought in and Vetokele was moved to the back. “Kader and Lukas are fresh people who hardly ever get injured. After fifteen minutes Lukas fell badly on his shoulder. Tomorrow he has to have photos taken so we will see if there is any damage, let’s hope it is not too bad. Then we can look towards Sunday,” said Peeters.
