The first real chance was already there. In minute 12 Christian Brüls swept off the left flank. His cross ended up on the heel of Kurt Abrahams. This small deviation meant that the defence of Lokeren was out of balance and Gilles Dewaele was able to get in from outside the sixteen. Just like last week in Beerschot, his shot in the left corner with goalkeeper Verhulst (1-0) disappeared.
Westerlo showed more rhythm, more willpower, smoother combinations and more danger to the goal than the opponent during that first half. Kurt Abrahams was close to doubling the score, but Davino Verhulst remains a reliable goalkeeper for his club. He whipped the ball from the corner. Brüls also made another attempt, but his shot went just past the goal.
Lukas Van Eenoo was allowed to kick a corner in minute 44. Emenike pulled his defender well to the first post and behind it a big boulevard appeared. Noël Soumah took advantage of that to head the 2-0 against the nets.
Coach De Boeck rearranged his pawns during the break, but this didn’t bring much danger to Lokeren. The plan “Peeters” worked out wonderfully well again and Lokeren could in fact not create any danger for the goal at all. In minute 66 they even got away well twice. First our Viking, Christoffer Remmer, hit the post and in the rebound also Bryan Van Den Bogaert could not score.
There was no more danger of a goal after that in this very enjoyable match.
