Beautiful Cup game
Today we played in the fifth round of the Croky Cup against RFC Liege.
Line-up KVC Westerlo: Koen Van Langendonck, Edisson Jordanov, Pietro Perdichizzi, Guy-Serge Yameogo, Kouya Mabea , Lukas Van Eenoo, Thomas Van den Keybus, Maxim De Cuyper, Tuur Dierckx, Igor Vetokele, Kyan Vaesen
It was immediately clear that it was not going to be easy today. The supporters of RFC Liege were numerous to encourage their club. The game seemed to get off to a slow start, until suddenly in the 24th minute RFC Liege managed to score through Damien Herman.
For a long time it looked like we would go into the break with a deficit, but in the 37th minute it was finally scored. Kyan Vaesen put the 1-1 on the scoreboard. A few minutes later, we were awarded a penalty just before half-time. The Liege supporters tried to take Tuur Dierckx out of his concentration. Tuur remained calm and put the score back into the net at 1-2.
The second half was a tough one, the referee had to take out yellow cards several times after fouls. Our Kemphanen managed to create a few more chances, but the ball just wouldn’t go in. Liège kept on putting pressure on and came close to the Westelse goal a few times too, but our defence and goalkeeper Koen Van Langendonck were always ready to clear the ball.
In the 91st minute Tuur Dierckx managed to break through and put the 1-3, and thus the final score, on the scoreboard. Westerlo goes through to the next round of the Croky Cup.
