A draw against Seraing
With high expectations, everyone with a yellow and blue heart was looking forward to Sunday evening’s match. After a very strong match against Deinze, it was now Seraing’s turn to go for the axe in ’t Kuipje. A victory could be important to open the debates for second place and not let leader Union (who won the Zwanzederby earlier in the day) run any further.
There was only one change to be noted among our ruffs. Perdichizzi rejoined the team instead of Abrahams. After a long round of study, the match only really broke open around minute 20. Mikautadze got some space from the Westel defence and cut through the ashes of the pitch, only to kick the ball past Berke Özer’s goal with a cracked shot. Going to the other side, we immediately noted the best opportunity of the first half. Lloci is allowed to pass the ball from the right flank. His cross is too high but in the 2nd zone he reaches Çiçek who can kick the ball back to Mabea. He returns to Çiçek who brings the ball low in front of goal. Mother’s soul alone Vetokele can devise the ball on the edge of the small rectangle but fails to open the score
The really great possibilities were then left out. Seraing occasionally came up with a distance shot but the Western defence was well organised to catch it. We are already 70 minutes into the game when Mabea shifts the game to Lloci. The latter puts the ball in front and tries to reach the fallen Gboho. The latter gets a push, penalty judge ref Debeuckelaere! Vetokele puts himself behind the ball and passes the penalty cold-bloodedly.
After the 1-0 Seraing went forward with even more pressure and our ruffs had to endure the game. Swers kicked another giant opportunity on Berke. In minute 85 it was hit. Kilota delivered an excellent cross from the left flank. Ndiaye is on the right spot to head the ball past Berke Özer. Trainer Bob Peeters pointed out during the press conference that this was the first air duel that Westerlo could not win over the entire match. At the very end, Berke Özer is still standing on a shot from Kilota after a handsome dribble from the striker.
The English weeks are now over and Westel now has a week to prepare for the Campine derby against Lierse K. Rendezvous Saturday 28 November at 20:45 in the Herman Vanderpoorten stadium.
