A bitter draw
Westerlo took the lead at the beginning of the second half after some good interlocking work by Atabey Çiçek. Lommel SK equalised in the final minutes through captain Neven. After Seydoux’s exclusion, it was important to get the point. A bitter draw tonight that will not help our team in the standings.
It was a first half to forget quickly. Both teams barely let their guard down, which resulted in a lot of wait-and-see play. Both Lommel and Westerlo had some small chances to score, although Lommel was a bit closer with a long distance shot that was well parried by Özer and a dribble by Moreno that put the Westerlo defence in the wind, but his shot was badly blocked. Westerlo were dangerous with headers from Atabey Çiçek and Perdichizzi but the killer instinct did not materialise.
Early in the second half, the pattern of the first half seemed to be repeated. Until Atabey Çiçek had found the right momentum to chase down the Lommel defence. He recovered the ball in the penalty area and saw that Lukas Van Eenoo had followed well. The West-Fleming was able to score easily in his 100th official game for KVC Westerlo!
Lommel SK started to put higher pressure and Westerlo crept backwards towards their own sixteen. After a few warning shots from Zaroury and Moreno and a goal from Neven that was disallowed for offside, the goal came in the final minutes. Zaroury put the ball in front of the goal and again Lommel captain Glenn Neven managed to get the ball past Özer with his head.
A draw that doesn’t help our team in the league.
