100 matches for Christian Brüls!
Currently quarantined at home by corona we had a distance talk with Christian Brüls. Brüls played his 100th official match against Club NXT and we look back at his two passages at our kemphanen.
Congratulations, you played your 100th official match for the kemphanen last weekend. Your first passage was in 2010, only to end up back in ’t Kuipje 9 years later. To what extent has Christian Brüls evolved as a football player in all those years?
Thank you. I think I can say that I have grown up. Not in everything but on the pitch anyway. In those 10 years I have been able to see a lot of how football works. I have learned a lot, both positively and negatively, from trainers, players and the whole environment that surrounds football.
I have had beautiful and less beautiful times in all those years, but on the field I am still the same. I will always give everything and try to help the team as much as possible.
Your statistics are also huge. 20 goals and 16 assists. Which of the two do you enjoy the most?
I only enjoy a win after the match. Whoever scores the assists or the goal is inferior. As long as we win.
Westerlo is currently in Turkish hands, what many may not know is that at the age of 19 you signed a contract with the top Turkish club Trabzonspor. You never played there, how did this happen?
This was a strange story. Trabzonspor worked together with MVV where I played at the time. They had the first purchase right. I don’t want to go into too much else, that’s over. Because of the problems with Trabzonspor and MVV, I ended up at Westerlo again.
What do you think of the statement “keep Brüls out of the match and that way you have the chance to win”. Does this appeal to your ego?
It’s quite funny and nice to hear but I don’t think about it too much myself.
Who gave you the nickname Tintin?
Those were the supporters from the Netherlands. I don’t know why 😉
